Remove EXIF and GPS from photos

Classic privacy job: drop GPS, camera model, serial-ish device fields, and common IPTC from JPEG, PNG, and WebP without uploading. Default mode also clears C2PA so provenance is not left behind as a side channel.

This page is for location and camera privacy. It is not an Instagram AI Info or SynthID tool.

When to use EXIF vs AI provenance

Use this page when the risk is where and what camera, not “AI Info” on a social app. Phone photos often embed GPS in EXIF. Sharing the original file leaks a map pin. That is a different search intent from remove AI metadata and from remove C2PA.

Where metadata lives (MVP formats)

Format C2PA / Content Credentials EXIF / GPS AI text / XMP
JPEG APP11 / JUMBF segments; XMP pointers APP1 Exif APP1 XMP; IPTC APP13
PNG caBX chunk eXIf tEXt / iTXt / zTXt (e.g. parameters)
WebP C2PA / caBX-class RIFF chunks EXIF chunk XMP chunk

What each strip mode removes

Mode Removes Keeps (typical)
AI provenance (default) C2PA/JUMBF, Content Credentials XMP, AI DigitalSourceType, known AI PNG text Ordinary camera EXIF when it is not AI/C2PA-linked
Privacy EXIF GPS, device/camera EXIF, common IPTC (+ C2PA by default) Pixels only — privacy-first pass
Strip all All detected EXIF / XMP / IPTC / C2PA categories in the report Image payload / structural chunks

Honest SynthID boundary

SynthID / TrustMark / soft-binding watermarks are not ordinary EXIF or C2PA metadata. Remove AI Meta does not claim pixel-watermark removal, “undetectable AI”, or guaranteed platform AI-label erasure. If Instagram still shows AI Info after a clean verify pass, the signal was not (only) file metadata.

HEIC/HEIF: not shipped client-side yet. Export to JPEG / PNG / WebP first — we will not fake HEIC support.

If you are preparing a post that Instagram marked with AI Info, start on Remove Instagram AI Info instead. You can still run strip-all here if you want every detected category gone in one pass.

Privacy report, not a toy strip

The before/after panel lists GPS, EXIF, and related categories with a verify re-scan — closer to an ExifReader / MetaStrip-style inspection than a silent “metadata removed” toast. Pair with Remove C2PA when Content Credentials are the job. HEIC is documented as later — export to JPEG first.
